We serve several groups of people with special needs at Monroe UMC. People come from two different care facilities, some in wheelchairs, some able to walk on their own, to be a part of our worship service. They get a lot out of being with us we are also blessed by them being with us. We help transport residents from the Delta Rehabilitation Center in Snohomish to our Sunday worship service. After the service we help to facilitate their participation in our fellowship time. On the 2nd Sunday of the month several of our members lead an afternoon Praise service in Delta’s gym for all the residents. We also have a LCD projector we use during the service and we provide a hearing-assistance system for those who are hearing-impaired.
Sunday Morning Worship
We have many things that we do each week to prepare and guide the service. Greater’s, Nursery care, singing, praying are just a few. If you would like to be a part of helping on Sunday Morning please talk to Pastor Mike or one of the leaders from the service and they will help you get involved.
Sunday School Teachers
We have many great kids here at MUMC and they love going to Sunday School. If you enjoy helping others learn about God and like working with kids we have a place for you. Please talk to Lynnda Langston our Sunday school coordinator or Pastor Mike or just show up at class one day and see what it’s all about.
AV system Help needed
No previous experience necessary! But we really need your help…. We are earnestly looking for people to be trained and actively participate in the “technical” aspect of our worship services and special events. This includes setting up microphones, assisting with the new “Hearing Assistance” devices, operating the sound system controls, the computer and LCD projector.
Trunk or Treat is a special event for community children sponsored by the Faith Choice Churches on S. Lewis Street: Methodist, Episcopalian, Lutheran and Congregational. Whole families with young children and youth “trick or treat” both sides of Lewis Street. We hand out gift bags filled with treats and toys. You, the members of our congregation, are invited and encouraged to hand out treats from the trunks of your cars parked on Lewis Street. Plan for at least 200 children and to stay until closing time. It is a party on both sides of the street that includes cocoa and cider, free hot dogs and lots and lots and lots of treats. Watch for info in October.
Christmas Giving Tree
During the Christmas season we place tags on a tree. The members of our church family take them and bring the gifts back and we deliver them to the agency that provides us with the families. Each year we all look forward to this time and the joy of giving and spreading Gods love.
Brown Bag Brigade
Each Wednesday committed volunteers prepare and/or deliver brown bag lunched to three sites; the Sultan Food Bank, Women’s Gospel Mission on Powell St. in Monroe, Leaders in Learning, and the Next Step Resource Network at the Covenant Church on Sams St in Monroe. They meet starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Congregational Church (301 S. Lewis) to put together 200 brown bag lunches for delivery to people who are homeless or in need of food in the Sky Valley area. This is operated by Faith Choices a joint venture between the churches on Lewis Street.
Loaves and Fishes
We as a church have partnered with the Sultan UMC congregation to provide a free community meal on the second Tuesday each month. We provide and serve the entire meal and invite you to join other volunteers in the preparation, serving and cleanup for this meal. Prep time begins about 2:30 PM. Cleanup is usually completed by 6:00 PM. The dinner, which is served between 4:00 and 5:00 PM, is free to anyone who walks through the doors.
Helping our local food bank
As a community of people we have dedicated ourselves to bring food each week to worship to be delivered to the Monroe Food bank. Please help us to feed those in our community that need a helping hand.
If you are interested in helping with these missions please contact the church office 360-794-8863.
